Sticky had tried his hand at Rallying a Hillman
Avenger and decided to use that as a stop gap until his new
Talbot Sunbeam was ready. The Avenger was an unusual but not
unique Hot Rod - there had been at least a couple of examples
racing in England including the West Country Autospeed drivers
Martin Farrell and Clive Baker. I also seem to recall a Spedeworth
example driven by Maurice Smith. The Torrens Avenger certainly
looked the part including all round screens which made it
look more like a circuit racing saloon than a Hot Rod.

Sticky's brother, Alan, also tried
his hand at Rallycross using an Avenger.
