Simon Pashley Trophy
Buxton, 22nd April 2012
, Report by Marc de Land

With heavy rain showers during the morning and just before start time it was wet weather tyres all round, Was good to see Jason Carnwell back in the pit area looking over his old car (the Cheetah Peugeot).

Race 1

With no white tops at the meeting the yellow graded cars were moved to the start finish line, Tony Smith and Neil Clarke was on the front row with Dave Dollin / Dave Bonser on row two and it was Neil who took up the lead from Tony and Dave Dollin and Bonser, By lap 2 Dave Bonser moved up to second place while Tony Smith dropped down to fourth, Mark Hodges was finding it hard going in these conditions and it was not long before the red graded cars were challenging for his position, and the first of those was Marc de Land and Daniel Pooley who were both going well, By lap 7 de Land got past Dave Bonser at the end of the home straight to put a car between him and Daniel and pulled a few car lengths clear, next up was Neil Clarke who was a little bit further up the track. Andrew Bilby retired to the infield on lap 8, Jonathan Pooley was slowly making his way up through the field dropping Gordon who had been staying in close contention, Lap 9 and de Land took the lead and Daniel was still close behind, these two then pulled well clear of the chasing pack. On lap 14 Dave Bonser who was going well up till that point spun out of 4th place and dropping down through the field, this allowed Jonathan and Gordon Pooley Cliff Bunn Daz Rycroft and Dave Dollin move up into the final points placing. Lap 16 and it was de Land who took his first win of the season with Daniel a few car lengths behind.

Race 2

With no more rain the track was still wet at the start of the race, and again Neil got the better start to take up the lead with Dave Bonser in second. Back in the red grade Andrew Bilby got a tap in the rear from Marc de Land at the start as he got bogged down at the start, Daniel managed to get pass Darren Clarke / Dave Dollin and Gordon Pooley within a couple of laps of the start, de Land got held up in traffic as the cars sorted them self out, by lap 6 Neil was still leading from Bonser who was going well in his new car, de Land had now court up with Daniel Pooley and coming onto the home straight Marc dived to the inside and moved up to 3rd the next lap both Marc and Daniel took Dave Bonser, Mark Hodges was going better in this race as he was in 5th place at this stage and keeping Daz Rycroft behind him. Dave Dollin slipped another place as he slid wide and allowed fellow new comer Darren Clarke pass. Lap 8 and Neil was now only two car lengths ahead of de Land, going down the back straight de land had a look on the out side but there was no way pass so on the exit of turn four he dived to the inside as he had done with Daniel a few laps earlier and started to get along side Neil but at the end of the straight Neil turned in not knowing Marc was there and the two cars collided send Neil in a spin and marc towards the fence and out of the race, two unhappy drivers. This allowed Daniel to take up the lead and that's where he stayed till the chequer flag, Dave Bonser finished a well deserved second and Daz lost third to Jonathan in the closing stages.

Simon Pashley Cup

The track had dried for the final so all the cars were on slick tyres, at the start Dave Bonser was the early leader with Dollin just behind, Mark Hodges was up to third after Tony Smith retired to the infield, On lap three Dave Bonser slipped down to sixth place after making a mistake, Lap six and Marc de Land and Gordon Pooley were going well with Marc out braking Gordon going into turn one to move up to third, next lap Jonathan did the same and started to close in on the leaders, Dave Dollin had half a straight lead over Hodges but with de Land and Jonathan Pooley all fighting for second place this was allowing the leader to get away. Jonathan Past Marc on lap 9 further down the field Gordon Pooley Tom Keep who had just got his car going well and Cliff Bunn had a coming together on the exit of turn four, the race was stopped while the cars were removed but this had bunched the remaining drivers right up, Daz Rycroft who had been lapped by the leader was between Dave Dollin and second place Mark Hodges so when the green flag came out after the rolling start Dollin was gone with a clear track ahead of him, Jonathan tried to take Hodges going into turn one but the no 5 car just slid a little wide and put Jonathan on the dirty part of the track and this allowed de Land back pass, on lap 14 Rycroft spun on turn 2 in front de Land and Pooley, Marc went wide and Jonathan took the inside but they both missed Daz, the next lap de land was back on the rear of Hodges but there was no sign of Jonathan, he had to retire with a broken steering arm, so for the next three laps de Land would get along side Mark Hodges but then Mark would slid the rear of the car out on the turn and de land would have to drop back behind, But on lap 17 de Land braked a lot later and this time stayed in a bit tighter apparently both cars touch wheels a few times and on the exit car 15 pulled clear of Mr Hodges and set about catch Dave who was a length of a straight ahead, Daz Rycroft and Andrew Bilby were having there own battle for fourth place with Andrew coming out on top. On the last lap going into turn three Marc was right with Dave but there was no way pass and the win went to no 44 Dave Dollin, his first win in a Midget and a good drive. The Pashley family presented the trophy to Dave.
