Grimley, 17th October, report by Marc de Land
What a meeting this turned out to be, only
eleven cars arrived but that eleven put on some close racing.
Heat one
Well for the warm up laps there was some
confusion whether we was racing or just warming up as the
green flag was dropped, Cliff Bunn, Neil Clarke and Marc de
Land took it for racing and by the end of the second lap was
up to 3rd 4th and 5th But then came the red flags and all
the cars had to re line up. Carl Checkley the lone white graded
driver got the cars away, by the end of lap two the red graded
cars were up with the blues, Neil Clarke managed to pass Pete
Dorrell who had some handling trouble, next up was Steve Dawson
and Andrew Bilby who had got his old BMC back on the track,
On lap 5 Daniel Pooley managed to pass Marc de Land and then
Cliff Bunn. Carl was still out in front and had increased
his lead by the end of lap 9, Neil had moved up to second
after demoting Steve Dawson, the next lap Steve young passed
to take over the third spot. With two to go Cliff was trying
to pass Pete exiting turn two and the pair banged wheels but
luckly enough they did not damage cars. The race win went
to Carl Checkley his first win in a Grang Prix Midget well
done Carl.

Heat two
This was a lively affair, the winner of race
one Carl took up the early lead from Andrew Bilby Steve Dawson
and Pete Dorrell. By lap 4 Cliff tryed to pass Pete going
into turn three but with Petes handling problem he started
to drift wide so Cliff tryed to move to the inside but Mr
Clarke was also going for the same space then had to brake
and Marc de Land who was onlt inches behind Neil could not
avoid tapping the rear of the number 77 car and putting him
into a spin, On Lap 6 Daniel retired with a broken drive shaft.
Going into turn one there was a group of cars Marc deland
on the inside Steve Young on the out, Marc`s front wheel just
touched Steves inside rear, Steve slid towards the fence Steve
Dawson got involved and also hit the fence he retired with
broken upright, as the race was stopped to clear the damaged
cars Marc also retired with damaged steering, while the race
was stopped the cars re-lined up, Carl who had a good lead
before the accident now had his lead chopped to just one cars
length, Neil Clarke came out best as he was a lap down but
was now in contention. Jonathon Pooley was soon up along side
Cliff Bunn making his car stick on the dusty outside line
he then past Pete Dorrell, Cliff tried to do the same but
coming on to the home straight Pete and Cliff tangled damaging
both cars Cliff spun exiting turn 3 and Pete retired, Cliff
manage to rejoin the race but two laps down. With three to
go Jonathon passed Carl to take up the lead where he stayed
to the finish, Neil took second on the last lap.

Final Central Cup
With only nine cars making it out for the
final Poor Carl Checkley only made it to the rear of the red
grade befor his car broke down so we was don to eight cars,
Cliff elected to start from the rear of the field as he had
some sort of problem with his car, after the warm up laps
for some reason the red grades lined up in single file. It
was Pete Dorrell who lead the cars away going into turn one
from Andrew Bilby and then the flying Danial Pooley. By lap
three Daniel was leading from Andrew in the BMC, Jonathon
had managed to drive around the outside of Marc de Land but
there was a battle between Pete and Neil for third this held
Jonathon up and marc took advantage to retake the number 31
car for two laps Jonathon battled back Marc went to take the
outside line to get pasr Neil this allowed Jonathon through
and passed neil at the same time.
By lap 8 it was the Pooley brothers one two
with Andrew Bilby third who had Neil and Marc breathing down
his neck, Andrew drove really well to hold for five laps and
take a well deserved third, Daniel went on to win from Jonathon.
