2004

2nd October, Bill Boarer Shield
Report by Mark Baulch from Ringwood's website

The Grand Prix Midgets visited Ringwood Raceway for the last time in 2004, 14 of them making the trip to the track to contend their Bill Boarer Shield. Steve Terry 6 led the first race for a substantial part of it, before being overcome by Neil Clarke 77. He only just clinched the victory, as new World Champion Rob Sayell 10 made a very late challenge and almost took the lead on the very last bend.

Sayell made no such mistake in the second race, staking his claim on the trophy that he won he 2002, the last time that it was presented. This race saw a couple of fast spins on the pit bend thanks in main to the extremely wet track, but then they had hoped for a wet meeting!

The final was set to be extremely exciting and we were not disappointed. Steve Terry 6 looked strong once again in the early laps, but Neil Clarke 77 and Rob Sayell 10 were just too quick for him. He drove well to hold on to third place though. So it was all down to the two heat winners. But, this time Rob Sayell 10 had to settle for the runners-up place, as Neil Clarke 77 made his little car as wide as possible to claim the title.

Heat 1: 77, 10, 19, 12, 43, 12, 6, 21.

Heat 2: 10, 77, 21, 6, 43, 19, 78, 18.

Final: 77, 10, 6, 12, 19, 21, 43, 78.
