26th May, Awalton, East of England Championship

Report by Gavin Terry. Daz Rycroft won all three races of the Monday meeting at Peterborough on 26th May, including the East of England Championship, which was kindly sponsored by Thameside Engineering. Mondays meeting saw a turnout of 13 cars. Unfortunately Andy Collins, Gary Bonner, Gordon Pooley, Brian Gough and Evan Stone were unable to fix their cars and Mark Hodges was unable to attend due to work commitments. However Gary Jones was able to attend boosting numbers slightly.

The East of England Championship race was won by a very quick Daz Rycroft who took the lead from lap 3 and never looked back. Rob Sayell and Harold Lowe who had to start from the back of the grid, as they had not qualified also made good starts. Peter Bourn was also driving well taking second early on in the race, as were Neil Clarke and Gary Granger. Rob Sayell was eventually able to pass to take second place. The end result was Daz Rycroft, Rob Sayell, Neil Clarke, Harold Lowe, Alan Buckland, Peter Bourn, Andy Hinch, and Andrew Bilby rounding off the points scorers. The top 6 took home trophies, which were presented by Chris Phillips on behalf of the sponsor Thameside Engineering.

The second race saw Peter Bourn take the early lead from the yellows, as Steve Terry did not start the race due to an engine misfire. Daz Rycroft got another good start taking second place early on and chasing Peter Bourn, eventually overtaking him for the lead. Neil Clarke and Rob Sayell also had a good battle for second place, with Neil eventually coming out on top. The end result was Daz Rycroft, from Neil Clarke, closely followed by Rob Sayell, Peter Bourn, Andy Smith, Alan Buckland and Gary Jones. However Gary Jones although allowed to race, could not be awarded any points, as he was running/testing a 1400 engine without a restrictor plate, and so will not feature in any official race results.

The third and final race of the weekend saw Joe Bourn racing his brother's car. Joe and Daz both got good starts and soon passed the only white top of Steve Terry. Neil Clarke was also going well getting into second place. Harold Lowe and Rob Sayell were also having a good battle until car problems caused Rob to retire. This race also saw Alan Buckland get it completely sideways before eventually spinning coming out of the corner, narrowly avoided by Steve Terry. Daz Rycroft took his third win of the day to complete the hat trick, followed by Neil Clarke, Harold Lowe, Joe Bourn, Andrew Bilby, Andy Hinch, Steve Terry, and Andy Smith completing the points scorers. Gary Jones would have came sixth however due to reasons previously explained does not receive any points and pushes everyone else up a place.
