13th September, Arena Essex, Cliff Davis Cup

Joe Bourn was on top form at Arena Essex on Saturday 13th September, winning two heats and the final. Bourn took the final by a considerable margin from Gary Bonner in 2nd and Andrew Bilby in 3rd.

The first race of the Rolling Thunder Show saw good starts from both Alan Buckland and Joe Bourn. Joe was able to move into the lead early on, passing Brian Gough. Andy Hinch was also going well, with a quick Gary Bonner leading the reds through. Alan Buckland appeared to be going well until a collision with Steve Terry left the two southerners sticking a little too close together!! Both were put out of the race, and Brian Gough also spun and hit the inside wall trying to avoid the incident. With 2 cars stranded the race was red flagged, and although only 6 laps had been completed, it was declared a result (due to a packed schedule of races and limited time). Joe Bourn was the winner, from Andy Hinch, and Gary Bonner. Mark Hodges, Andrew Bilby, John Salter, Neil Clarke, and Daz Rycroft rounded off the points finishers.

Race 2 saw Joe Bourn take another early lead, a position he didn't look back from. Andy Hinch was also going extremely well, getting past Barry Goldsby for 2nd place, and starting to close in on Bourn. Buckland, Hodges, Rycroft, and Bonner were also having a good close battle for 3rd position, with Alan Buckland eventually coming out on top after a brave move up the inside of Daz Rycroft. Andy Hinch was unable to catch Joe Bourn in 1st, taking 2nd from Alan Buckland, Gary Bonner, Daz Rycroft, Harold Lowe, John Salter, and Neil Clarke.

The Final once again saw an unstoppable Joe Bourn stomp off to an easy victory from the yellow grade, to complete his hatrick of wins. Second place was a little closer however, with Alan Buckland chasing Andrew Bilby, who in turn was gaining on Gary Bonner. With all three cars nose to tail by the chequered flag! Gary Bonner just did enough to clinch 2nd, with Andrew Bilby holding onto 3rd from Alan Buckland. John Salter had also been going well, but didn't have enough laps to quite catch the front four. The end result was Joe Bourn, from Gary Bonner, Andrew Bilby, Alan Buckland, John Salter, Mark Hodges, Harold Lowe, and Andy Hinch.

With just two meetings left the points championship is hotting up, after a couple of good performances of late from Alan Buckland the top 3 in the championship are separated by just a few points! Neil Clarke has Alan Buckland breathing down his neck, with Harold Lowe just behind him. All this makes for an exciting last few meetings!!
