6th May, Buxton, Simon Pashley Trophy

Daz Rycroft scored his second feature race win in three meetings at Buxton on May 6th, writes Paul Jones. Rycroft, in his first season of midget racing withstood the challenges of Gary Granger and in the later stages Rob Sayell. The feature race for the Simon Pashley Memorial Cup had to be restarted when Mark Hodges stalled on the grid and was hit from behind by Neil Clarke and both cars were unable to make the restart after suffering heavy damage. Rycroft led from the restart with Barry Goldsby in second. Peter Bourn was making good progress but he had to retire mid race. Granger and Sayell broke away from the rest of the star grade drivers. Sayell eventually passed Granger and set about Rycroft applying pressure in the remaining laps but he couldn't find a way passed and Rycroft hung on for victory. Granger retired late on with drive shaft failure enabling Barry Goldsby to continue his good form and come home third. Fourth went to Andy Smith with Andrew Bilby fifth and Gordon Pooley sixth.
