Other awards during 1999

Best Newcomer - Gary Jones Gary attended 81% of meetings, travelling long distances, only missing meetings when repairing damage. The whole team have taken an active interest in the Club and the future looks extremely promising for them. His commitment was rewarded with success towards the end of the season when he won the Southern Championship.

Club service award winner - Tony Haynes During his time with the Club Tony served on the Committee on many occasions, taking on the role of Chairman, Treasurer and Committee member as well as acting in a technical advisory capacity. His dedication to our formula was obvious in many ways - he raised sponsorship from ICI for specific meetings, he negotiated preferential rates for Club members with both Fast and Hoosier tyres and he wrote a number of articles on car set up for the Club magazine. When Harry Sayell first decided to put up trophies for the white and yellow grades in 1995, Tony was quick to add a cash prize for the winners that year as an additional incentive. In 1999, whilst on a business trip to South Africa, he took time out to meet the new Midget team owner to discuss the proposed technical specifications. Sadly this valued Club member passed away in 1999. It was therefore decided to make a posthumous Club Service Award (in place of the usual Best Sportsman award) honouring the achievements of Tony Haynes.

1999 Chairman award winner - Gary Piper Many of the Club's supporters go un-recognised and Gary is no exception. Gary has spent a great deal of his spare time promoting the formula. In 1998 he brought a £1000 sponsorship deal to the Club from his employers - Fulcrum Solutions Ltd. Sponsorship he could just as easily have had solely for himself. He did the same again in 1999 and consequently put the Club in a much more secure financial position. In addition he recently brought the formula bang up to date by giving us our own web site - www.gpmidgets.co.uk. Gary has not had the best of luck on the circuit but still keeps coming back for more.
