28th and 28th May - Peterborough
- European Championship
Another disappointing turn out, particularly
from the Europeans, questions the value of this title but
take nothing away from Harry Sayell whose performance was
entirely dominant and must leave many of the others scratching
their heads wondering what they can do.
The time trials saw Sayell on pole with a
time of 16.76 seconds followed by Klaus Kilianski on 16.87
and Nic Grindrod third based on unofficial times after he
broke down during his 'proper'run. The second row was completed
by another German, Werner Demundt.
The race was stopped after four laps when
Demundt spun and blocked the entrance to the start finish
straight. There-stai-tsawSay,ellholdoffastron@challen-efrombothKilianskiandGrindrod,
Harry gradually pulling out a small lead over the German's
Dastle. The front runners' pace was so rapid that they started
to lap the tail enders on lap four but by lap 15 Kilianski
started to fall back with engine problems leaving Grindrod
to give chase. Sayell pressed on as Grindrod started to experience
fuel pressure problems, dropping back to fourth at the flag.

The East of England Championship was the feature
race on the Monday and it was back to business for the English
lads after the non points scoring races on the Sunday.
Nic Grindrod took the Championship win in
the 20 lap event using a fuel pump loaned by HarrySayell.
Sayell joinedGrindrod at the front of the pack on lap 6 but
the youngster firmly resisted all attempts made by the new
European Champion to overtake. Stuart Haynes and Klaus Kilianski
did battle behind in 3rd and 4th whilst the outgoing Euro
Champ., Toni Scheepens fought with Gordon Pooley for 5th and
6th.
The consolation race later in the day saw
Grindrod's second win the day, this time from Haynes, Sayell
and Kilianski. This concluded the weekend's racing, just
the two races on the Monday following a long delay as a driver
in the Stock Cars was freed from his car badly burned and
this caused our third race to be cancelled.
