Report by Dave Cox from Motoring News

BRIAN FORREST and Malcolm Goodman dominated the racing at Northampton on October 5, with Forrest winning the British Championship while Goodman took a heat and final win. World Champion Basil Craske had a quiet day but did enough to clinch the Angel Hotel Championship and promoter John Clark thoroughly enjoyed himself in Dermott McGivern's car.

Paul Rodgers led the 19 cars away in the 25 lap British Championship with Ray Coulson taking up the running on lap two as Goodman and Forrest sped through from the' blue grade. Coulson spun the lead away on lap six and Goodman took over shadowed by Forrest with Harry Sayell and John Lowe battling for third. A misfire developed in Goodman's car bringing his run to an end and leaving Forrest a clear run to victory ahead of some hectic dicing for minor places. J. Lowe passed Sayell in the final stages to go ahead, with David Wesbroom and Graham Sinclair side by side for fourth and fifth, while Harry Lowejust pipped Craske for sixth.

Rodgers set the pace in heat two until Coulson went by with Goodman and Forrest in pursuit. Coulson held on four three laps before Goodman and Forrest slipped by and pulled away as Wesbroom. Sayell, J. Lowe and Paul Sinclair scrapped for fourth. Goodman took the flag a length clear of Forrest with Coulson third ahead of Sayell, J. Lowe and P. Sinclair.

Coulson set a fast pace in the final round of the Angel Hotel Championship chased by Mike Fowler, Goodman and Forrest. Fowler spun out and Goodman piled on the pressure with Coulson holding on well until the halfway point when Good¬man sped past on the start/finish straight with Forrest following through a lap later. Forrest hounded Goodman all the way to the flag, this pair crossing the line nose to tail for Goodman's second win. Paul Sinclair eame through the field to snatch third place from Coulson with J. Lowe and Sayell fifth and sixth. Craske could only manage eighth place but it was enough to secure the Angel Hotel Championship with a total of 43pts from P. Sinclair (41pts) and Harry Lowe (35pts).
