Malcolm comes good! From Motoring News by Graham Brown

JUST AS the same driver took a hat-trick of wins in the hot rods, so Malcolm Goodman powered his way to three straight victories in the Grand Prix Midgets. Though Goodman was having only his second outing of the season, the former English Hot Rod Champion made good use of his current blue grading to trounce the opposition.

The opening heat saw the early lead argued over by Harry Sayell and John Lowe until the hurrying Goodman caught them. His first attempt to get past nearly ended in disaster when he got on the dust out near the wall on the pit turn. However, Malcolm recovered from the huge 'moment' repassed Brian Forrest and went after the leaders once more. This time Goodman hit the front with no trouble at all and went on to take the win, though a hard charging Mick Bonner wasn't far behind at all by the finish. Basil Craske took third with Alf Boarer just snatching fourth from Sayell out of the last bend.

The second heat followed a similar pattern except that Goodman took the lead sooner and with less trouble! Bonner once again came through well for second, ahead of Sayell, Forrest, Paul Sinclair and Boarer.

Lowe didn't last very long in the final, so it was just Sayell that Good man had to catch once he'd disposed of Forrest. Once Malcolm had the lead, the placemen settled down in the order Sayell, Forrest and a sideways Bonner, whilst Sinclair, Craske and Boarer conducted a heated battle for fifth. This lasted until five to run when Boarer and Craske collided going into the far turn, the latter spinning helplessly, a manoeuvre he repeated at the other end after he'd rejoined. Goodman extended his lead by the end to half a lap and Bonner just pipper Sayell for second, leaving Forrest fourth and still ahead of Boarer, Sinclair and Dermot McGivern.
