Craske Retains Title - Report from Motoring News by Dave Cox

Basil Craske took the honours at the Grand Prix Midget East of England Championship at Peterborough on September 15, retaining his title ahead of Alf Boarer and Paul Rodgers.

Sixteen cars lined up for the East of England Championship with Harry Sayell the initial leader ahead of Mike Fowler, Ray Coulson and Paul Rodgers. Sayell pulled off with mechanical problems on lap four and Rodgers led Fowler, Ray Perry and the fast-charging Craske and Boarer. The impressive Rodgers held out until lap 14 when Craske and Boarer went by with Perry fourth ahead of Sinclair and John Lowe. Perry dropped out with two laps to run and Boarer was developing a slight handling problem, but Craske came home the winner for the second year running ahead of Boarer, Rodgers, Sinclair, John Lowe and Dermott McGivern. Boarer's rear suspension collapsing altogether on the slowing down lap!

Mike Fowler led the field away in race two with Rodgers, Harry Lowe and Mcgivern in pursuit. Boarer, Sinclair, and Craske shot through the field as Rodgers took over control at the front, some hectic dicing eventually seeing Craske spinning off in the excitement. At the flag Boarer led home Rodgers, Craske, McGivern, Forrest and Coulson.

Harry Lowe was the early leader in race three ahead of McGivern and Rodgers with Craske moving through to lead on lap 11 with McGivern behind. Craske took the chequered flag for the second time, heading home McGivern, Boarer, Rodgers, Sinclair and John Lowe.
