13th October 1985 - Wimbledon
Report from Lynn News & Advertiser
At the last race meeting of the year at Wimbledon Stadium,
which was predominantly a hot rod race meeting the Grand Prix
Midget cars had two races and local driver Harry Sayell showed
good form.
In the first Midget race, for the Westnofa Shield, he gained
thelead on lap one and held it for 19 laps, but unfortunately
was passed only feet from the finishing line by ex-World Champion
Alf Boarer from Surrey leaving Harry in second place. The
other local driver, Malcolm Goodman finished fourth in this
race.
Harry again took an early lead in the second Midget race,
for the London Championship, but with tyres that had not had
time to warm up, he went too wide overtaking a previously
spun back marker, ending up on the loose part of the track
spinning and ending his race. As a result of this, Malcolm
Goodman was able to take the lead and went on to a well deserved
win which pleased him considerably as he originates from London.
Westnofa Trophy: 69/1/33/28/9/66/24/96
London Championship: 28/24/47/66/9/40/42/15
