28th October 1984 - Wimbledon
Brief notes by Jim Gregory from Spedeweek no 43

The Midgets put on easily the best performance I have ever seen from them, although the championship was a runaway win from the white grade by Pat French.

Midget car drivers must think that they are feted at Wimbledon, because so often over the years it has rained. On October 28th it was no different with the London Championship at stake, but the drivers coped well and gave us three very interesting races. Defending champion John Seamark as under suspension, but there was an excellent field headed by WorldChampion Alf Boarer, British Champion Mick Bonner, National Champion Malcolm Goodman, Scottish Champion Dermott McGivern, one of the all time greats Basil Craske and recent winner at Aldershot of the Rod Tanswell Cup, Roland Parker. Parker could well have been the star of the evening but each time, when placed in the first three, he rain into a mixture of troubles and never finished. The man who did take most of the glory was Pat French who took full advantage of his white grade and his higher car to take 3rdplace behind Ray Perry and Malcolm Goodman in the Westnofa Trophy, second in the next race behind Dave Scott and then won the London Championship from Mick Eason and Scott. On a dry track this could have been a sensational meeting for the Grand Prix Midgets. Lets hope we see them back soon.

First heat (Westnofa Trophy): 1st Ray Perry, 2nd Malcolm Goodman, 3rd Pat French

Second heat: 1st Dave Scott, 2nd Pat French

London Championship: 1st Pat French, 2nd Mick Eason, 3rd Dave Scott
