25th July - Northampton, British Championship
Report from September Short Circuit

July 25 saw the GP Midgets at Northampton for the British Championship. Harold Lowe drew pole position out of the hat with Garry Pollard and Geoff Hughes best placed star men at 3 and 5. When the flag dropped seventeen cars bobbed and weaved away from the grid with Pollard leading Lowe and Hughes at the end of lap one. Hughes, Basil Craske and Mick Bonner soon moved through in hot pursuit of Pollard with Craske slipping'ahead of Hughes into second spot and through into the lead on lap ten. As this high speed train screamed round the track Pollard tangled with a back marker and retired moving ,Hughes up to second ahead of Bonner and Dave Cox. When the chequered flag fluttered Craske was the new British Champion with Hughes, Bonner, Cox, Gerry Pinny and Anthony Brewer completing the top six.
