MIDGET MATTERS - Ann Freebody
From Short Circuit, October (?)
Bad meeting for the oldest at Brafield George
Pollard locked one front wheel and stuffed it in the fence
- he did the same at Arena earlier, in the year; white John
Blackburn finished off his driving career by trying to go
straight on at the top bend, resulting in a write-off, plus
cuts add bruises add cracked ribs what a way to retire...
while John was receiving attention, his car was acting as
donor to a clutch for the Malcolm Goodman machine, and Malcolm
won the next race, thanks John... Nice meeting at Cleethorpes
with some of the closest acing of the season. and nice to
meet up with starter Ted Weaver again, even if he did slap
a few Midget drivers wrists for, bumping…. Harold Lowe got
taken into the fence in race one and lost the offside, Gary
Pollard driving Dad's car spun it in race two and he always
maintains the car is OK it's Dad that needs setting up!...
Malcolm Goodman couldn't let the public down, and in a desperate
effort on the last lap of race 3 wrote off his car and was
taken to hospital… incidentally, Geoff Hughes snr, who was
pushing out so much smoke he didn't even see the black flag,
though night had fallen when he caught up with the trail he
laid... while to make matters even more existing, with visibility
to, the drivers down to eight feet Roland Parker lapped consistently
minus sump plug gently spraying the track with oil... nice
to see Cliff Davis at the Bovingdon meeting where he presented
the trophies for, the Graham Hill Memorial race, and Cliff
was taken round for a lap of honour, in his wheelchair escorted
by Eric Fretten and Geoff Hughes snr... George Pollard couldn't
wait for racing to begin, and fenced his car coming in from
practice, being left with three wheels... Basil Craske was
out again in his rebuilt car (his thank to Cliff for all the
hard work done), and is still in winning form… John Graham,
Chairman of the GPMC, turned up to encourage the drivers and
racing was pretty hairy with spins all over the track but
no bad damage or injuries.
