Midget news
from Short Circuit - June 1981 by Ann Freebody

After the first meeting at Arena Essex Greg Pugsley surveying the shattered remains of his car (after holding the lead in the first race for 18 out of 20 laps, then spinning off) said "The car is fast enough - it's the driver that's too slow." John Smith at Arena in the second meeting was in a new car with a covered roll cage - which he found was so low he had to drive with his head tucked beneath his arm! Malcolm Goodman making a comeback blew the clutch on lap one at the first meeting, and not to disappoint his fan club stuffed the car through the fence in practice at the next. Anthony Brewer turned out in a very superior Mk18 Dastle and competed in three races - resulting in three crashes. Don't let it get you down Anthony, there isn't much left that you haven't done to a Midget.

OAP John Blackburn got his first club championship point, and has already painted the car red. Roland Parker, who has been going very quickly, blew his engine in a big way at Arena, while Ray Rapson found the fence rather stronger than his car - an unusual situation for this normally tidy driver. Basil Craske turned up at Arena for the second meeting without his car but sporting a natty line in headgear. We think he was trying to pick up a few tips from the hated Hughes family who won all three races at this meeting.
