Midget news
from Short Circuit - April 1981 by Ann Freebody
Activity is just starting again for the first
Midget meeting of the year at Arena Essex on April 19. During
the Winter the annual presentation dinner dance, Roland Parker
was presented with the 'Altitude Award' by the Swaffham promoters.
That track has seen quite a bit of 'flying', especially in
the early days when the banks were used like ramps, but Roland's
effort last season was really the tops!
Midget driver Alan Fretten will be driving
in Formula Ford this season, his first race being due at Brands
Hatch on March 29. Good luck to him from all Midget people…
but his very competitive Mk18 Dastle is still standing in
the garage with the battery charged just in case!
Alf Boarer is getting married this year so
his car will be driven by Malcolm Goodman… watch out for Malcolm's
tail out style on the bends - come to think of it on the straights
as well! Basil Craske told the AGM that he gets fed up with
winning all the time and needs more competition… John Blackburn,
Midget racing's oldest inhabitant, formally gave notice that
he has spent a lot of money on his car this year. The set
of rings ace he has purchased should ensure a higher position
in the points chart… Strong rumour that Anthony Brewer has
a brand new car hidden away for the start of the season. It's
expected to be very competitive. Mick Bonner, with the clubs
blessing, will be trying out a modified 1500cc BLMC engine
as an experiment.
