30th August - Cleethorpes
New track to the Midgets, back at a Spedeworth
meeting for the first time in several years. A long trip for
most drivers, but a very enjoyable meeting.
Race 1: Roland Parker, starting from blue
grade after an absence since Easter, quickly took lead from
Mick Doyle and held on despite pressure from Harold Lowe and
Mick Bonner. 1st Parker, 2nd Bonner, 3rd Clements.
Race 2: Geoff Hughes creating smokescreen,
racing difficult! Roland P. again took lead followed by Dan
Hornby, but Parker's car started to lose oil, Hornby led one
lap before Goodman took the lead. lst Goodman, 2nd Bonner,
3rd Hornby.
Final: Doyle led for three laps until Hornby
passed him together with Fretten and Bonner, but the last
two collided after Bonner tried to overtake inside with no
track, and Mike Clements came through to take second Goodman
in. heavy fence crash on last bend, taken to hospital with
broken bone in arm, but released later, quite cheerful. lst
