25th May, Bovingdon, Bill Boarer Memorial
Report from Midget News, May 1981

Just for a change it was raining again. 17 cars turned up for the Bill Boarer Trophy meeting in appalling conditions. Halfway through the meeting it was going to be stopped but with pressure from both spectators and drivers the meeting carried on.

The Bill Boarer Trophy.

Grid positions were drawn for and Basil Craske, after a long rest, was quick off the line to take the lead after two laps and held on to it to win. Geoff Hughes Sen going extremely well this season was in second place after three laps closely followed by Malcolm Goodman. There were quite a few retirements due to the slippery conditions.

The trophy was presented by Alf Boarer

Second race, 15 laps. It was good to see George Pollard going well in this race and he led for three laps - well done George. Malcolm Goodman wasn't content with 3rd place in the last race and was soon in the lead with Basil Craske second. Alan Fretten drove John Blackburn's car to find out what the problem was and he agreed with John that there were problems! Mick Bonner was back in form with his 1300cc engine finishing 3rd.

1st Malcolm Goodman, 2nd Basil Craske, 3rd Mick Bonner
