1981

23rd August 1981, Northampton, Report from Midget News

It was nice to see 17 cars turn up, Gary Pollard and Alf Boarer nicely tanned from their Holiday and Honeymoon respectively. Congratulations to Dave Scott who got married to Margaret - Ray Rapson's sister, thought you might have combined your honeymoonwith Brafield Dave, but will excuse your absence this time Dave. Nice to have such hot weather but not too good for overheating the cars,

1st Race: Racing always seems fast at Brafield and today was no exception. -Neil Belsey and Jerry Pinny both white grades, took a flyer from, the Grid and led in that order for 7 laps. John Blackburnfinding extra speed after a couple of weeks off found he couldn't take the bend at that speed and met the fence. George Pollard did the same and Dermot McGivern thought he'd do some old tyme waltzing - spinning three times. Malcolm Goodman took the lead on Lap 8. Neil Belsey hanging on to 2nd place until lap 11 when Geoff Hughes Senior came through with Brian Forrest.

1st Malcolm Goodman, 2nd Geoff Hughes Senior 3rd Brian Forrest 4th.Neil Belsey.

2nd Race: With John Blackburn receiving treatment in the First Aid Post, Malcolm Goodman's mechanic was taking off the clutch cover from John's Car for Malcolm's car - with John's permission - as John didn't think he he could repair it for the final. Neil Belsey again took the lead with Jerry Pinny second until lap 8 when Neil retired putting Jerry in the lead for two laps until Malcolm Goodman with re-conditioned car took over. On lap 5 Dan Hornby trying to avoid Gary Pollard who was 2nd failed to do this and picked up Mick Bonner and Geoff Hughes Senior, Dermot McGivern only spun once but bent his upright and broke his halfshaft.

1st Malcolm Goodman, 2nd Gary Pollard, 3rd Mike Clements, 4th Harold Lowe

3rd race: This time Neil Belsey held on to the lead for 11 laps with Mick Bonner very close behind for five laps until he overtook him on lap 12, Malcolm Goodman made his break on lap 15 overtaking Neil.
