4th May - Arena Essex
Report from Short Circuit, June 1981 by Ann Freebody
Greg Pugsley continued his form from the opening
meeting by taking an immediate lead in race one. Brian Forrest
got on his tail and pressurised all the way until lap 14 when
Greg found it too much and spun onto the centre in a shower
of mud. Brian held the lead for only one lap as red grade
Geoff Hughes jnr got by to win, Gary Pollard taking third.
The start of race two repeated the first with
Pugsley taking an early lead. Geoff Hughes snr wasn't having
that though and family honour placed him in the lead. Anthony
Brewer and Dave Scott had a nasty on lap two and accounted
for Ray Rapson who spun on the spilled oil and wrapped his
car around a post. Hughes snr won from Pollard and Hughes
jnr.
The final race saw John Blackburn lead for
two laps, however it was the Hugheses day and Geoff snr took
the lead to hold off a determined challenge from Pollard,
Hughes jnr again and Pugsley
