20th June 1974 - Aldershot
Report by Man on the Terrace from Spedeweek number 23
The other week a well known Midget car driver asked my son
why we had not included more Midget news in the diary recently.
Well the answer is that they have not appeared on the London
circuits lately, much to our sorrow as we are both keen fans
of this formula. Anyhow, Youth on the Terrace made certain
that he was at Aldershot when the Midgets, including ten members
of the MARC, were given a full three heats and a final.
The racing, he tells me, was very keen with Frank Boyles
winning heat one from David Underhill of the MARC and Mick
Bonner. Neil Thomas won the second heat from Bonner and Derek
Kisby. John Holtham, in only his second meeting this year
won the last heat from Boyles and John Smith. In the final,
a rare event for this formula, Mick Bonner won from Frank
Boyles and Pete Gatehouse.
We do not hear much about the MARC racing away from the Spedeworth
circuits although Derek Johnson told me some time ago how
he and some of the other Spedeworth Midget drivers appeared
at Hednesford with them earlier in the season. At Aldershot
Ian Griffiths of the MARC kindly gave us a programme for St
Austell on May 27th when the MARC appeared with the Autospeed
Ciruits Hot Rods, including our old friend Spence Morgan,
and the local Bangers.
