Thursday 7th March 1974 - Aldershot
Report from 'The Herald' local paper
After last year's great showing of Midgets their line up
for the three races was surprisingly low, although the racing
was good. Stealing a march on the stars with a great early
break, John Hawkins staved off a Frank Boyles challenge to
take the first race by inches, so earning himself the handicap
of starting the remaining races as back marker. He was unable
to make good the near half lap disadvantage coming 6th and
7th in the two races.
Boyles was determined not to be done out of the chequered
flag for race two and soon swept into a lead which left the
others well behind. In his last race however he was back again
to second place. Because of his win he too, had to start at
the tail end of the field and could not quite make up the
ground to pass Keith Fransella who won a great race.
Another Farnborough Midget driver, Bob Elson, also had a
good evening, improving as each race took place. He ended
the meeting with 6th, 4th and finally 3rd places.
Having spent the close season rebuilding his car, Bordon
driver Daz White proceeded to demonstrate his great improvement
by scoring 5th, 2nd and 5th in his races. Mick Davis, who
is ungraded, went home with an 8th place under his belt.
