Pre season news
Auto Enthusiast Magazine - January 1973

Fireball Mk3 is obviously the the name to watch in the '73 season for Midgets. Rod Tanswell's immaculate car will be a force to reckon with - watch out for an article on the build of this immaculate Indy-style Midget. Surprise news comes from Derek ("I'm now a dad") Johnson who has ordered a new Fireball Mk 3 that will be powered by his tried and tested 1300cc Spitfire motor. Derek has in the past been the rider of some pretty ill handling pieces of machinery and only his driving skill has put him among the star men. Derek and the new Mk3 will be an unbeatable combination next season. Ex Superstox exponent Bob Elson has gone Dastle for next season with a new Mk7 under construction, power will be from a trusty 1300cc X-flow Ford motor. "Bomber" Wells, another ex super snail exponent has just taken delivery of a new Mk2 Fireball with Mini power, a driver has yet to be named. Chrysler power will be a feature of a new car under construction by M40 Tony Wilcox. A brand new car based on a model from the Lotus stable is being built by Colin Byrne of Black Lawnmower fame; more details of that in a later issue. '73 seems as though Midgets are going to leave their mark on the oval scene.

Driver Profile - John Holtham
Auto Enthusiast Magazine - January 1973

John Holtham No 9 MARC Midget. John came on the scene just after Stewart Morgan (Auto's rally driver). John must surely drive on of the best looking Dastle Midgets on the ovals. He races with MARC and this year (referring to 1972) managed 4th in their championship. His recent trip with the MARC to Jamaica proved a real seller for Auto Enthusiast. The Jamaicans took to him and his Midget and consequently the mag. Wherever he went the little car seemed to create interest. The mods he's doing for this season should prove interesting so keep your eyes peeled, you might see him in that No 1 spot yet.
