Intoduction of the Fireball Mk 3 and Mk 4 Cars
Press release by Frank Boyles (FB)
Fireball Mark 4
Based on the famous Mark 2 rear engined BMC layout, this new
car uses a much improved chassis of large section square steel
tubing making very robust construction possible with ease
of maintenance. Still incorporating the Mini front subframe,
albeit now much modified, this is a well proven and robust
component and enables the price of the complete kit to be
kept within reasonable limits.
The G.R.P. body, to customer's choice of colour, is in three
parts. The centre section of cockpit and sides which is removeable
in one piece; the nose section, removeable to allow access
to hydraulic cylinders, radiator, steering rack-,--etc.; and
the engine cover. The new striking body, and a considerable
amount of weight saving, while keeping the now well proven
strength of the Mark 2, have been key points in the design
of the car.
The first of these new cars will be raced in 1973 by Frank
Boyles. The car will be finished in the smart colours of BP
and Custom Car along with the National Championship winning
Mark 3 of Rod Tanswell.
Orders for both cars are being taken at present and delivery
is, as always prompt.
Fireball Mark 3
This new car was announced last November, and in the capable
hands of Rod Tanswell, won the National Midget Championship
on its first time out against all the best Midget racers in
the country. This alone must be proof of the car's capabilities
and future potential.
It is designed around traditional Midget racing lines, with
the engine in the front driving the rear wheels via a special
all alloy differential unit of F.B. manufacture. The bodywork,
however, is of modern looks, courtesy of FKS Limited, being
based on Indianapolis type styling.
The chassis is of rigid square tube construction and will
accept most in line engine/gearbox units offset to the left
of the driver's legs. Suspension geometry follows well proven
theories and all the parts are very easy to assemble. All
special components are included in this and the Mark 4 kit,
and very little skill, or experience is needed to complete
either car.
F.B. can undertake initial setting up of the suspension once
either car is completed which is, of course, all important
in making the car handle ,as designed.
Special:
F.B. is now producing a special differential casing complete
with shafts, bearings, etc. which will accept the BIMC "All
series axle unit. This combines to make a very light assembly
for which limited slip differentials are readily available
as are a large number of axle ratios. This unit was designed
specifically for the Mark 3 Fireball Midget, but will, of
course, readily fit any front engined car with rear wheel
drive independent suspension. Output shafts can be supplied
for either rubber do-nuts or U?J's and sliding spline half
shafts can also be made up to any length required.
F.B. operates a complete racing service for all branches
of the sport and Frank Boyles can be contacted at: Aldershot
