22nd April 1972, Wisbech
From The Midget Scene by 'The Informer', Spedeweek no 12
The first meeting in Anglia for Midgets took
place at Wisbech the other Saturday, which no doubt pleased
the Anglian drivers as they have had a lot of travelling to
do to be able to race their Midgets this year. We had a good
turn out of local drivers, but it was disappointing to say
the least on the attendance of the Southern lads. Perhaps
Ringwood, which was the following day, had something to do
with it. However the racing was quite something, the East
Anglian crowd enjoying, their first taste of Midgets, 1972
style.
Race one was down to Frank Boyles. He seemed
to have the car on full chat all the way round in practice
so it was no great surprise to see him on the control car.
Rod Tanswell unfortunately got off to a bad start and retired
early in the race with trouble.
Race two was something too with a first time
ever win for Bill Boarer (M69) in his nicely prepared rear
engined Midget. It must have been quite a thrill to go round
on the control car for him. Well done Bill, now you know how
it's done, keep it up!
Race three saw Tanswell out on the line for
the second time of the evening having missed the second heat.
Perhaps to be expected Rod stormed through the field to take
the chequered flag, a well deserved win after earlier set
backs.
