20th May 1972 - Wimbledon
Report from London Diary 'Man on the Terrace', Spedeweek no
17
The Midgets made their last London appearance
before the long awaited challenge match at Aldershot on June
1st against the Midget Auto Racing Club. They all looked on
good form with Rod Tanswell winning the first race from his
great friend and track rival Frank Boyles. Boyles revered
the result in the second race and then took the last one from
Roland Parker after Tanswell has gone into the fence near
the pits entrance. I do not know at the time of writing this
who the MARC are going to send in their team to Aldershot,
but early in May their points championship was headed by 1971
holder Paul Emery from Tony Stubbs, Griff Griffiths, Brian
Spicer, Peter Smith and David Niven. Several of these drivers
are well remembered by Spedewoerth fans. They are very welcome
back. The sad thing is that they ever left. However nobody
wants to go back over the past at a time like this. The racing
should be first class and let’s hope the two sets of drivers
can meet frequently on the track in future.
