Sunday 9th April 1972, Cross in Hand
By The Informer From Spedweek no 10
The Midgets were out in force at Cross-in-Hand
on the 9th of April and gave us some fine racing. This was
an extra meeting put in the week before and was not on the
fixture list. As stated, with a good turn out of Midgets,
some fine racing was the order of the day. Frank Boyles had
things pretty much his own way as for some reason or other
Rod Tanswell did not make an appearance.
Boyles won the first race in fine style from
Glenn Baker (M43) with Barry Martin (M12) finishing third.
The second race of the day for Midgets was
again won by Boyles from young Gerald Ames (M17) who drove
a good race to get second spot and Roland Parker (M18) who
managed third in his new "Fireball".
The final race of the day was the fastest
in my opinion with Derek Johnson (M45) beating Frank Boyles
with Neil Thomas getting third spot. There was quite a lot
of action in this race with quite a pile-up on the pit bend
in the early stages of the race. I was pleased to see Derek
Johnson get his win as he had a nasty turn over at the Cross
on the Easter weekend and suffered quite a bit of damage and
slight concussion, still managing to make the meeting the
next day at Ringwood. There's dedication for you! I thought
as a whole the entire meeting was a great success with a good
attendance of cars and public.
