The Vikings are based in Esbjerg and managed by leading
Danish promoter Jurgen Holm. The drivers areamongst the
cream of Scaninavia's auto aces and by all accounts should
offer our team some really tough opposition and very exciting
competition. The team comprises:
1
Steen Mikkelsen, Fiat Arbarth Group 2, Team Captain.
From Odense, 31 years old, Steen is a motor mechanic by
trade and is also the Danish Champion. possibly the best
known and fastest member of the team, this unusual car with
its very experienced driver should provide plenty of headaches
to our team.
2
Palle Christiansen, NSU 1200 GT. This 29 year old builder
from Sonderborg has a reputation as a bit of a character
to say the least. Team Manager Jurgen Holm tells us that
Palle is a very temperamental driver with no nerves at all
which apparently makes for a spectacular driving style!
3 Carl Hanssen, NSU 1000 GTS. Carl is from Horsens
and owns a haulage company with 24 trucks. He's been racing
for about a year and is very, very fast. To show just how
keen he is Cark has bought a brand new engine specially
for this tour which he had flown from Germany at considerable
expense and has rebuilt it himself. Carl is 33.
4
Steen Gudmansen, Austin Cooper 1300. Steen holds the
current
"wreck record" having written off three cars last
season. A great personality, Steen likes a laugh but also
takes his racing very seriously. He owns a petrol station
in Copenhagen and is in fact making quite a sacrifice to
come to England as he has just opened a new store in Copenhagen
which he should be looking after. But then he just can't
resist the chance of writing-off another car...
5
Søren Meder, Sunbeam Imp. Pint-size Søren
is apparently one for
the girls, and has no hair - "because he has a sharp
brain," says their manager. Søren is an engineer
but also designs clothes. His Zebra striped Imp is considered
to be on of the fastest
in Europe. He is 27 years old - and unmarried.
6
Arnold Larsen, Renault 1300. 36 year old Arnold is mechanic
in his home town of Esbjerg and has held the Danish Championship
for Touring Cars three times. Arnold has been racing for
nine years but this British tour will be the first time
he has raced aftera serious crash which kept him out of
action for some time.
The series:
Demonstration race - Friday 9th July, White City
Round 1 - Saturday 10th July Wimbledon
Some details from a completed programme. The competition
started with two six car races over five laps. Arnold Larsen
won the first from Barry Lee, Eric Tooley, Steen Mickelsen
and Steen Gudmansen. Denmark led 8-7. The second six car
race was won by George Polley from John Geeves, Palle Christiansen,
Carl Hanssen and Søren Meder. England now led 16-14
The next section saw four five lap races with eight cars.
Larsen won the first race from Tooley, Gudmansen, Lee and
Mikkelsen. The second race was won by Gudmansen from Phil
Powell, Christiansen, Lee and Meder. These two races saw
the Danes taking six points off the English team to take
the lead. The English team was back on form in the next
race with the two big guns, Lee and Polley taking first
and second ahead of Christiansen with Geeves fourth and
Mikkelsen fifth. The last race in this section saw Polley
winning from Larsen, Gudmansen, Powell and Geeves.

winning from Lee, Polley
